George Bancroft a well known historical figure and close friend of Abraham Lincoln. Helped write the Gettysburgh Address. General Ethan A Hitchcock was the commissioner for prisoners of war.

The Bancroft autograph looks to be correct handwriting. Note on back indicates a reply was written on April 12 Surrender date for the Civil War and 2 days prior to Lincoln's Assassination.
